A job fair on Tuesday hopes to fill positions in one of Sioux Falls’ fastest growing areas.
As of July 2018, Sioux Falls’ unemployment rate sits at 2.1 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
That combined with nearly $450 million in building permits for the first seven months of the year has employers searching for workers.
Building projects around Lake Lorraine means more jobs.
“Every employer in town is looking for qualified, talented, great communicator-type-of-staff,” Jane Gullickson said.
Gullickson, Executive Director at Grand Living, says it’s a good problem to have.
But employers are needing help as the area continues to grow.
“So many things happening here with construction, with growth, with new businesses, and some businesses moving over,” Gullickson said.
“The idea for a job fair actually came from our businesses collectively talking about how we can work together,” Amy Smolik said.
Thirteen businesses within the community hosting a first of its kind Lake Lorraine Job Fair to search for employees.
“Whether you’re seeking full-time, part-time, seasonal, there’s a variety of options,” Smolik said.
There’s added pressure with the second holiday season right around the corner for many of the national retailers.
“Several businesses around the lake are going to present about the opportunities they have and to have a community director for Lake Lorraine is really a neat opportunity for all of us,” Gullickson said.
There’s hope the joint-effort will make a dent in the open positions.
“Please know that there are jobs out there if you’re willing to work,” Smolik said.
Advanced, Inc. and Total Card, Inc., have not opened their Lake Lorraine locations yet but are both looking for more employees.
The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. at the Grand Living at Lake Lorraine Forum Theater. There’s no cost to attend.
