When it comes to low-voltage installations, Americom owner Mark Maltaverne is an expert.

“It’s definitely picked up a lot recently. We are doing probably as many as 3 to 4 times more antenna installations as we have in the past,” Maltaverne said.

Maltaverne has noticed the trend of cord cutters, those who are ditching their paid TV service.

“It’s free and you’re not paying that monthly bill,”  Maltaverne said.

TVFreedom.org and Antennas Direct are joining forces with KELO-TV to give away free HD antennas. The first 300 people in line will receive an antenna, starting at 6:45 a.m. Friday at KELOLAND TV, 501 S. Phillips Ave.

“The Broadcast TV liberation Tour is basically educational in nature, too. Because they want people to realize that there is free TV programming out there that you don’t have to pay if you don’t want to,” KELO-TV Director of Marketing and Creative Services Paul Farmer said.

“The biggest thing is that you’ll get a lot more channels if you locate your antenna in the correct location,” Maltaverne said.

Maltaverne says it’s a great back up so viewers can always watch the local news and weather when they need it most.

“Quite often with satellite antennas, you lose your reception during storms when it’s the most critical time, when people want to be able to pick up their local news and weather to find out what’s going on,”  Maltaverne said.
