Jim Sideras Paperwork Outlines New Details Leading Up To Arrest

The arrest warrant affidavit for ex-Sioux Falls Fire Chief Jim Sideras outlines the events leading up to his arrest.

As KELOLAND News first told you last week, a search warrant was executed on Sideras’ Sioux Falls home.

According to newly filed court documents, after the search of his house began, a deputy from the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department found Sideras at the Law Enforcement Center parking lot.

The deputy says Sideras got into his vehicle and asked Sideras if a Yahoo email address beginning with “sandilikestoplay” sounded familiar.

Sideras replied: “Kinda, but I’m not going to say anymore.”

Sideras was asked if he attended a conference for fire accreditation in San Antonio last August. The fire chief replied, “Yes.”

Shortly after, Sideras said he wanted to speak with his lawyer and the conversation ended.

In the search of his home, officials uncovered two devices (a laptop and desktop computer). 10 photos on those devices led authorities with enough probable cause to arrest Sideras.

According to the court papers, the youngest children in the photos appeared to be about 2 or 3-years-old.

They also uncovered chat logs using Yahoo! Messenger that showed lewd conversations.

Sideras has been charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. He’s out on bond and is expected to appear in court later this month. He was no longer employed with the city after the search warrant was executed.
