The defense has rested in Stephanie Hubers’s GEAR UP Trial.
Hubers took the stand just before 10 a.m. Thursday.
The former Mid-Central Educational Cooperative staffer is accused of taking more than $50,000 to keep quiet about her boss’s embezzlement scheme. She broke down, saying she loved the Westerhuis children as if they were her own.
On Wednesday in court, her attorney made a motion to acquit her on all charges, saying the state failed to prove Hubers was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
After a short recess, the judge denied the motion.
Closing arguments are Friday.
