The owners of a consignment store in Yankton have been arrested on tax charges.
Melissa and Doug Pearson face multiple felony charges for allegedly failing to file sales tax returns from their business, Pearson’s Treasures Galore. The Pearsons are also facing embezzlement of property placed in trust, or grand theft.
Both are also accused of not paying sales tax in 2016 and 2017.
In April, a Yankton man told KELOLAND’s Angela Kennecke that the pair had not paid him for his items that were sold at the store. The Pearsons denied the claim during an interview, but admitted that they owed money to other people.
The Pearsons made their initial court appearance in Yankton County on Wednesday morning. Both are being held at Yankton County Jail.
