The sunshine brought a lot of people out to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society on Sunday.

The animal shelter hosted its first “Dog Days Carnival.”

Games, food and fun were offered earlier in the afternoon.

Families participated in everything from face painting to taking a tour of the facility.

Humane society leaders say it’s a good way for people to learn more about the organization.

“Some people don’t know really what we do, so it’s just kind of a fun opportunity to just get people together and kind of understand what The Humane Society does,” special events coordinator Allison Kolander said.

While entry was free, all funds collected from the event will go towards helping an animal find a forever home.
