Former Mid Central Assistant Business Manager Stephanie Hubers says she can’t get a fair trial and has asked a Charles Mix County Judge to decide her fate rather than a jury.

In court papers, Hubers’ attorneys ask that the Court hear her case over a jury trial because of the quote, “media firestorm unprecedented in South Dakota.”

As evidence, Hubers’ attorneys submitted media coverage from KELOLAND News as well as other news outlets in the state.

Her attorneys argue that quote, “Ms. Hubers’ case is tainted by the stench of Scott Westerhuis’s murder of his wife and children, his arson and undetected fraud.”

Court papers say the real thieves are dead.

Hubers is accused of taking $55,000 in hush money to cover up what the Westerhuises were doing with the money.
