Funeral services for Sturgis Assistant Fire Chief David Fischer, who died while fighting a blaze in Tilford last week, are now scheduled for Saturday in Sturgis.

From now until internment, Fischer will not be alone. 24 hours a day, fellow firefighters will be standing watch. The South Dakota Local Assistance State Team posted a video on Twitter early Tuesday morning showing the change of a shift overnight.

At the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, where David Fischer’s body has been temporarily placed, a changing of the honor guard, standing watch at the Chapel entrance, takes place every ten minutes.
The guard is being maintained by members of the South Dakota National Guard and by firefighters from around the area.

Fischer services will take place at Sturgis Brown High School at 1 P.M., and will be followed by burial services at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
