Holler Awaits Sentencing In Deadly Shooting

He’s accused of shooting and killing a 17-year-old at a park in southwest Sioux Falls almost a year and a half ago.  Later this week, he will find out his fate.

Dylan Holler is charged with manslaughter for the shooting death of Riley Stonehouse and will be sentenced in Lincoln County on Friday.

Holler has been locked up in jail ever since a judge denied his bond back in August of 2017.  The judge considered Holler to be a danger to the community and a flight risk.

Holler was originally charged with murder, but had his charges reduced to first-degree manslaughter in exchange for his guilty plea.

He’ll be sentenced this Friday.

If you remember on a summer night in August of 2017, Holler shot and killed Stonehouse at Bakker Park.

Investigators said it was part of drug deal gone bad.  Stonehouse’s mother tells KELOLAND News, her son was in the wrong place at the wrong time and she plans on being at Friday’s sentencing.

Stonehouse suffered a single gunshot wound in the upper back. .

Police say it all started when a carload of teens, including Holler, picked up someone at a house party and drove around the neighborhood.

“They were involved in a drug-related activity that led to a fight, which led to this shooting,” Captain Blaine Larsen with Sioux Falls Police said.

Stonehouse was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Days later, family and friends of Stonehouse gathered at Bakker Park to remember the teenager; a teenager who’s life was taken too soon.

Holler’s sentencing is scheduled for this Friday in Lincoln County at 9 a.m.  He faces the possibility of life in prison.
