Nearly 24,000 students will be subject to heightened security throughout the Sioux Falls School District after a loaded handgun was found at the Career and Technical Education Academy on Friday by an employee.
The Sioux Falls School District and the Sioux Falls Police Department are working hand in hand to determine how an employee found a loaded handgun on Friday.
Police have narrowed down suspects to a small list.
There is believed to be no threat to students or the public.
But the email sent out to parents on Sunday says there will be heightened security awareness in all district buildings as students and staff return to class on Monday.
