Sanford Health partners with TytoCare

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A new way for doctors to treat and diagnose patients is now available at Sanford Health.

The hospital is partnering with TytoCare to enhance their telehealth services, making virtual visits better than ever.

The days of heading into the clinic to see a doctor are dwindling down.

Paul and Jolyn Munson say being able to visit with their doctor using video chat makes getting medical attention easy.

“We just pulled up the app on our phone, requested the visit and I want to say it was about 10 minutes later that they notified us that they were ready and then they just talk you through the whole process,” Paul said.

Sanford Health’s virtual care technology offers patients 24/7 care, 365 days a year.

Now, with its partnership with TytoCare, Paul says getting a diagnosis is simple.

“Rather than just being a picture on a screen and communicating with a provider that way, you actually can use the Tyto device to do certain exam components. So, look in an ear, look in a throat, listen to heart and lungs, take a temperature,” Dr. Josh Crabtree with Sanford Health said.

TytoCare offers live, physician-guided exams using video chat along with the home exam kit.

With two kids at home, Jolyn says being able to get a diagnosis without leaving the house is huge.

“To be able to really get all the readings that you can just from home, and the device itself is so small. It’s pretty impressive to me,” Jolyn said.

Crabtree says the device offers benefits for many, such as providing people in rural areas easier access, as well as preventing exposure.

“You don’t have to expose yourself to everybody else in the exam room, or you don’t have to be exposed to everybody else in the exam room,” Crabtree said.

He says the device costs $299, and a visit varies by your specific insurance coverage.

For the Munson’s, the cost of actually going into the clinic costs more than a TytoCare visit.

“So we feel like we can get the same kind of value and actually save some expense and over time the device does end up paying for itself,” Jolyn said.
