During And After Pregnancy Fitness Class

Women who are pregnant or who have just given birth now have a new opportunity to get fit.

About a month ago GreatLIFE started a new class inviting not only the mothers, but their new baby’s.

New and expecting moms often stay away from group fitness classes because of the intensity or a lack of childcare.

But now there’s a option tailored to them.

“Just the ability to be able to bring my baby to class, and get out of the house and just to be active,” Angela Jones said.

Fit Moms started in early September, giving both pregnant and new moms a fitness plan that’s safe during and after pregnancy.

“Any trimester, and especially after giving birth. I know there’s a lot of questions but all the exercises are pre-programed and safe for any woman pre or post natal,” Mike Smith said.

GreatLIFE trainer Mike Smith says the gym’s childcare service doesn’t accept babies until they’re 3-months-old, so this class offers an alternative.

“This class gives mothers the opportunity who have just given birth to bring their children in the class, and they can actually sit on the side, and enjoy class with their child,” Smith said.

Jones says having her 11 week old daughter with her is huge.

“Oh it’s been so incredibly nice just because she’s so little so I hesitate a little to put her in a big group. This way I know her needs, she’s right there with me,” Jones said.

This class will not only help you stay fit but it may also help make the birthing process a little easier.

“Staying active is really just going to help through the whole birthing process. Staying healthy, not only for yourself but for your baby as well. So this class really gives mothers the opportunity to do it in an environment that’s safe and with a certified instructor,” Smith said.

“I wish that I would’ve known about it earlier and been able to come through my pregnancy and a little bit more on my maternity leave,” Jones said.

A low intensity class leaving participants feeling great.

“I was sore, I’ve been sore, but it’s a good feeling. It’s a really good feeling,” Jones said.
