November 30

There were 1,341 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total case count to 166,208, up from Monday (164,867).

The COVID-19 dashboard for Tuesday reflects case numbers from Thursday (11/25) – Monday (11/29), according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

The number of active cases reported on Tuesday is at 6,778, down from Monday (7,253).

There were six new deaths reported, bringing the total to 2,334. The deaths include two men and four women in the following age ranges: 70-79 (1); 80+ (5). Deaths were reported in the following counties: Brown (3); Hand (1); Lawrence (1); Lincoln (1); Meade (1).

Current hospitalizations are at 243, up from Monday (234). Total hospitalizations are at 8,446, up from Monday (8,362).

Total recovered cases are now at 157,096, up from Monday (155,286).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,708,350 total tests reported as of Tuesday, up 10,273 from 1,698,077 total tests reported Monday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 17.7% for Nov. 22 – 28.

Of South Dakota’s 66 counties, 60 are listed as having “high” or “substantial” community spread. “High” community spread is 100 cases or greater per 100,000 or a 10% or greater PCR test positivity rate.

There have been 964 Delta variant cases (B.1.617.2, AY.1-AY.25) detected in South Dakota through sentinel monitoring.

There have been 176 cases of the B.1.1.7 (Alpha variant), 3 cases of P.1. (Gamma variant) and 2 cases of the B.1.351 (Beta variant).

The DOH announced changes to how it reports vaccinations on the COVID-19 dashboard as of Monday, October 14. It now includes a breakout of how many people have received booster doses. Due to data clean-up efforts, the percentages of people who’ve received one dose or completed the series have changed. Find the DOH explanation in this story.

On Wednesday, November 24, the South Dakota Department of Health updated how it reports the percent of the population getting vaccinated. To align with the vaccine-eligible population, the Department of Health is including children who are 5-11 years old. The state says there was a decrease of 7% from the 12+ year old population.

As of Tuesday, 64.25% the population 5-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 53.49% have completed the vaccination series. 14.87% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

There have been 561,438 doses of the Pfizer vaccine administered, 403,489 of the Moderna vaccine and 33,561 doses of the Janssen vaccine.

There have been 167,085 persons who have completed two doses of Moderna. There have been 229,913 persons who have received two doses of Pfizer.

As for booster doses, 67,337 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 49,437 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 1,307 have received a Janssen booster.

November 29

There were 575 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Monday, bringing the state’s total case count to 164,867, up from Wednesday (164,292).

This is the first update since last week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The number of active cases reported on Monday is at 7,253, up from Wednesday (7,080).

There were eight new deaths reported, bringing the total to 2,328. The new deaths were five men and three women in the following age ranges: 60-69 (2), 70-79 (1) and 80+(5). Deaths were reported in the following counties: Brookings, Brown (2), Custer, Gregory, McPherson, Minnehaha and Moody.

Current hospitalizations are at 234, up from Wednesday (231). Total hospitalizations are at 8,362, up from Wednesday (8,339).

Total recovered cases are now at 155,286, up from Wednesday (154,892).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,698,077 total tests reported as of Monday, up 4,470 from 1,693,607 total tests Wednesday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 17.2% for Nov. 19 – 25.

There have been 964 Delta variant cases (B.1.617.2, AY.1-AY.25) detected in South Dakota through sentinel monitoring, an increase of 55 over the previous report.

There have been 176 cases of the B.1.1.7 (Alpha variant), 3 cases of P.1. (Gamma variant) and 2 cases of the B.1.351 (Beta variant).

As of Monday, 64.04% the population 5-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 53.28% have completed the vaccination series. 14.42% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

There have been 556,701 doses of the Pfizer vaccine administered, 400,933 of the Moderna vaccine and 33,409 doses of the Janssen vaccine.

There have been 166,896 persons who have completed two doses of Moderna. There have been 228,393 persons who have received two doses of Pfizer.

As for booster doses, 65,386 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 47,671 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 1,251 have received a Janssen booster.

November 24

There were 571 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Wednesday, bringing the state’s total case count to 164,292, up from Tuesday (163,721).

The number of active cases reported on Wednesday is at 7,080 up from Tuesday (6,950).

There were two new deaths reported, bringing the total to 2,320.

Current hospitalizations are at 231, down from Tuesday (237). Total hospitalizations are at 8,339, up from Tuesday (8,313).

Total recovered cases are now at 154,892, up from Tuesday (154,453).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,693,607 total tests reported as of Wednesday, up 4,878 from 1,688,729 total tests reported Tuesday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 15.8% for Nov. 16 – 22.

Of South Dakota’s 66 counties, 65 are listed as having “high” or “substantial” community spread. “High” community spread is 100 cases or greater per 100,000 or a 10% or greater PCR test positivity rate.

There have been 909 Delta variant cases (B.1.617.2, AY.1-AY.25) detected in South Dakota through sentinel monitoring, an increase of 12 over the previous report.

There have been 175 cases of the B.1.1.7 (Alpha variant), 3 cases of P.1. (Gamma variant) and 2 cases of the B.1.351 (Beta variant).

On Wednesday, November 24 the South Dakota Department of Health updated how they report the percent of the population getting vaccinated. To align with the vaccine-eligible population, the department of health is including children who are 5-11 years old. The state says there was a decrease of 7% from the 12+ year old population.

As of Wednesday, 63.82% the population 5-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 53.25% have completed the vaccination series. 14.16% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

There have been 554,194 doses of the Pfizer vaccine administered, 399,164 of the Moderna vaccine and 33,318 doses of the Janssen vaccine.

There have been 166,819 persons who have completed two doses of Moderna. There have been 228,228 persons who have received two doses of Pfizer.

As for booster doses, 64,431 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 46,468 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 1,216 have received a Janssen booster.

November 23

There were 931 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday, bringing the state’s total case count to 163,721, up from Monday (162,790).

Data from Saturday and Sunday is included in Tuesday’s update, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

The number of active cases reported on Tuesday is at 6,950, up from Monday (6,865).

There were nine new deaths reported, bringing the total to 2,318. The new deaths reported include four women and five men in the following age ranges: 40-49 (2); 70-79 (2); 80+ (5). Deaths were reported in the following counites: Butte, McCook, Minnehaha (3), Moody, Pennington, Potter and Spink.

Current hospitalizations are at 237, up from Monday (230). Total hospitalizations are at 8,313, up from Monday (8,271).

Total recovered cases are now at 154,453, up from Monday (153,616).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,688,729 total tests reported as of Tuesday, up 7,417 from 1,681,312 total tests reported on Monday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 15.8% for Nov. 15 – 21.

There have been 897 Delta variant cases (B.1.617.2, AY.1-AY.25) detected in South Dakota through sentinel monitoring, an increase of four over the previous report.

There have been 172 cases of the B.1.1.7 (Alpha variant), 3 cases of P.1. (Gamma variant) and 2 cases of the B.1.351 (Beta variant).

As of Tuesday, 70.91% the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 59.17% have completed the vaccination series. 15.44% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

There have been 551,031 doses of the Pfizer vaccine administered, 394,794 of the Moderna vaccine and 33,119 doses of the Janssen vaccine.

There have been 165,557 persons who have completed two doses of Moderna. There have been 227,352 persons who have received two doses of Pfizer.

As for booster doses, 63,383 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 44,586 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 1,170 have received a Janssen booster.

The state is also reporting data for the number of children under 12 years of age who have received a vaccine. It shows 8,102 children have gotten the vaccine, which is 5.53% of that population.

November 22

There were 415 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Monday, bringing the state’s total case count to 162,790, up from Friday (162,375).

The number of active cases reported on Monday is at 6,865, up from Friday (6,820).

There were four new deaths reported, bringing the total to 2,309. The new deaths include two men and two women in the following age ranges: 60-69 (1); 80+ (3). The new deaths were in Codington, Hughes, Minnehaha and Pennington counties.

Current hospitalizations are at 230, down from Friday (234). Total hospitalizations are at 8,271, up from Friday (8,252).

Total recovered cases are now at 153,616, up from Friday (153,250).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,681,312 total tests reported as of Monday, up 3,839 from 1,677,473 total tests reported on Friday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 15.6% for Nov. 12 – 18.

As of Monday, 70.54% the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 59.07% have completed the vaccination series. 14.79% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

There have been 546,299 doses of the Pfizer vaccine administered, 391,103 of the Moderna vaccine and 32,912 doses of the Janssen vaccine.

There have been 165,300 persons who have completed two doses of Moderna. There have been 226,927 persons who have received two doses of Pfizer.

As for booster doses, 60,994 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 42,106 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 1,087 have received a Janssen booster.

The state is also reporting data for the number of children under 12 years of age who have received a vaccine. It shows 7,156 children have gotten the vaccine, which is 4.88% of that population.

November 19

Active COVID-19 cases are climbing back up to levels not seen since early October in South Dakota, according to the latest data from the state’s Department of Health.

There were 415 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Friday, bringing the state’s total case count to 162,375, up from Thursday (161,960).

While the difference in the total case count reported Friday and Thursday equals 415, when you add the PCR, or newly confirmed, cases (297) and antigen, or new probable, cases (121), there were 418 new cases.

The number of active cases reported on Friday is at 6,820, up from Thursday (6,775).

There were two new deaths reported, bringing the total to 2,305. The new deaths were two men in the 80+ age group. New deaths were reported in Codington and Minnehaha Counties.

Current hospitalizations are at 234, down from Thursday (246). Total hospitalizations are at 8,252, up from 8,233 on Thursday.

Total recovered cases are now at 153,250, up from Thursday (152,882).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,677,473 total tests reported as of Friday, up 4,049 from 1,673,424 total tests reported on Thursday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 15.8% for Nov. 11 – 17.

As for booster doses, 59,830 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 40,430 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 998 have received a Janssen booster.

The state is also reporting data for the number of children under 12 years of age who have received a vaccine. It shows 6,705 children have gotten the vaccine, which is 4.57% of that population.

November 18

There were six new COVID-19 deaths reported in Thursday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health, bringing the total to 2,303, up from 2,297 on Wednesday.

The new deaths were four men and two women, all in the 80+ age group.

There were 486 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Thursday, bringing the state’s total case count to 161,960, up from Wednesday (161,474).

The number of active cases reported on Thursday is at 6,675, up from Wednesday (6,663).

Current hospitalizations are at 246, up from Wednesday (239). Total hospitalizations are at 8,233, up from 8,211 on Wednesday.

Total recovered cases are now at 152,882, up from Wednesday (152,514).

November 17

There were three new COVID-19 deaths reported in Wednesday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health, bringing the total to 2,297, up from 2,294 on Tuesday.

The new deaths include one man and two women in the following age groups: 2 in the 70-79 age group, 1 in the 60-69 age group.

There were 482 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Wednesday, bringing the state’s total case count to 161,474, up from Tuesday (160,992).

The number of active cases reported on Wednesday is at 6,663, up from Tuesday (6,534).

Current hospitalizations are at 239, up from Tuesday (236). Total hospitalizations are at 8,211, up from 8,188 on Tuesday.

Total recovered cases are now at 152,514, up from Tuesday (152,164).

November 16

There were five new COVID-19 deaths reported in Tuesday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health, bringing the total to 2,294, up from 2,289 on Monday.

The new deaths include two women and three men in the following age ranges: 50-59 (3); 70-79 (1); 80+(1). New deaths were reported in the following counties: Codington, Jackson, Minnehaha, Tripp and Walworth.

Numbers in the Tuesday update are from Saturday at 1 p.m. – Monday at 1p.m., according to Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon.

There were 904 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday bringing the state’s total case count to 160,992, up from Monday (160,088).

The number of active cases reported on Tuesday is at 6,534, down from Monday (6,535).

Current hospitalizations are at 236, down from Monday (243). Total hospitalizations are at 8,188, up from 8,129 on Monday.

Total recovered cases are now at 152,164, up from Monday (151,264).

As of Tuesday, 69.76% the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 58.79% have completed the vaccination series. 13.09% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

As for booster doses, 57,862 people have received a 3rd Pfizer shot, 36,047 have received a 3rd Moderna dose and 914 have received a Janssen booster.

The state is also reporting updated numbers for the number of children under 12 years of age who have received a vaccine. It shows 5,938 have gotten the vaccine, which is 4.05% of that population.

November 15

There were eight new COVID-19 deaths reported in Monday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health, bringing the total to 2,289, up from 2,281 on Friday.

The new deaths include five women and three men in the following age ranges: 60-69 (3); 70-79 (1); 80+(4).

There were 745 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Monday bringing the state’s total case count to 160,088, up from Friday (159,343).

While the difference in the total case count reported Monday and Friday equals 745, when you add the PCR, or newly confirmed, cases (575) and antigen, or new probable, cases (192), there were 767 new cases.

The number of active cases reported on Monday is at 6,535, up from Friday (6,496).

Current hospitalizations are at 243, up from Friday (233). Total hospitalizations are at 8,129, up from 8,087 on Friday.

Total recovered cases are now at 151,264, up from Friday (150,566).

November 12

There were four new COVID-19 deaths reported in Friday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health, bringing the total to 2,281, up from 2,277 on Wednesday.

Due to the Veterans Day holiday on Thursday, no new numbers were reported.

The new deaths include two men and two women in the following age ranges: 70-79 (1); 80+ (3). Deaths were reported in the following counties: Hyde, Mellette, Minnehaha and Pennington.

There were 521 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Friday bringing the state’s total case count to 159,343, up from Wednesday (158,822).

The number of active cases reported on Friday is at 6,496, up from Wednesday (6,290).

Current hospitalizations are at 233, the same as Wednesday (233). Total hospitalizations are at 8,087, up from Wednesday (8,066).

Total recovered cases are now at 150,566, up from Wednesday (150,255).

November 10

Seven new COVID-19 deaths reported in Wednesday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health.

The death toll from COVID-19 is now at 2,277, up from Tuesday (2,270). The new deaths include four men and three women in the following age ranges: 40-49, 70-79 (3) and 80+ (3).

There were 555 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Wednesday bringing the state’s total case count to 158,822, up from Tuesday (158,267).

The number of active cases reported on Wednesday is at 6,290, up from Tuesday (6,083).

Current hospitalizations are at 233, up from Tuesday (231). Total hospitalizations are at 8,066, up from Tuesday (8,047).

Total recovered cases are now at 150,255, up from Tuesday (149,914).

There were three new COVID-19 deaths reported in Tuesday’s update from the South Dakota Department of Health, up from 2,267 on Monday.

The new deaths include two men and one woman in the following age ranges: 70-79 (1); 80+ (2).

There were 871 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Tuesday bringing the state’s total case count to 158,267, up from Monday (157,396).

The number of active cases reported on Tuesday is at 6,083, up from Monday (5,961).

Current hospitalizations are at 231 from Monday (186). Total hospitalizations are at 8,047, up from Monday (7,998).

Total recovered cases are now at 149,914, up from Monday (149,168).

The DOH currently reports total tests each day. There have been 1,639,915 total tests reported as of Tuesday, up 7,274 from 1,632,641 total tests reported Monday.

The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 14.3% for Nov. 1 – 7.

As of Tuesday, 68.47% the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 58.53% have completed the vaccination series. 10.66% of those eligible have completed their booster dose.

There were 401 new total COVID-19 cases reported on Monday bringing the state’s total case count to 157,396, up from Friday (156,995).

The number of active cases reported on Monday is at 5,961, up from Friday (5,857).

The death toll from COVID-19 remained at 2,267.

Current hospitalizations are at 186, down one from Friday (187). Total hospitalizations are at 7,998, up from Friday (7,974).

Total recovered cases are now at 149,168 up about 300 from Friday (148,871). The latest seven-day PCR test positivity rate for the state is 13.8% for Oct. 29 through Nov. 4.
