A Brandon farm that sits right between the Big Sioux River and Split Rock Creek has started planting season in its greenhouses.
Cherry Rock Farms escaped flood damage from the recent rain and is hoping for a slow snowmelt moving forward. Owner Marco Patzer says the family is running a few weeks behind because of all the snow but customers shouldn’t notice when they open for business. He says if his fields were to flood, now would be the best time for it to happen.
“This time of year we spend most of our time in the greenhouses anyways. Planting in the greenhouses and getting the transplants and all the seed planted and ready to plant out in the field when it warms up,” Patzer said.
Patzer says if we can get gradually warming temperatures and a slow snowmelt, Cherry Rock Farms will be off to the races with planting.
