Former Student Files Lawsuit Against Elk Point-Jefferson School District, Officials

KELO Court Two

A former Elk-Point Jefferson student is suing the district, her former principal and superintendent.

According to federal court papers, Addison Ludwig was humiliated by her principal because of a comment she made to the local paper.

In the “Senior Sportlights,” she listed “Netflix n’ Chill” as her hobby.  The lawsuit says the same reference had been used by male students without any repercussions, but Ludwig was called to the principal’s office.

The documents claim Travis Aslesen closed the door, made her look up the phrase on “Urban Dictionary” on her school-issued laptop and read the definition out loud.  According to the blog, the phrase refers to sex.

Ludwig says she was humiliated and crying.  She says he punished her by forcing her to write an apology that would be printed in the paper.  He also removed her as editor of the school newspaper.

We reached out to Ludwig’s attorney and the district.  We haven’t heard back.
