A new big box store is coming to northwestern Sioux Falls. Fleet Farm is building on land at the Sanford Sports Complex.
The 185,000 square foot building will be in the southeast corner of Interstate 29 and Benson Road.
“It’s really convenient with on-off traffic from the interstate,” Matt Ditmanson, Director of Business Development at the Sanford Sports Complex, said.
The retailer, which offers a wide variety of products from cattle feed to camping gear and clothing, will be located at the Sanford Sports Complex. Sanford is developing around 500 acres.
“An important component of our Sanford Sports Complex is the retail development component. Fleet Farm brings that anchor that we’ve really been looking for,” Ditmanson said.
What’s next for the Sanford Sports Complex? You can expect more retail announcements soon. It’s also zoned so that it could include office space and even housing.
“In a time where there’s not a lot of large box retailers doing a lot of growth, our market lends itself very well to their product mix,” Raquel Blount, Vice President of Commercial Real Estate for Lloyd Companies, said.
Blount is the listing agent of this land.
“With 1.3 million visitors to that complex per year, now it’s time to support that traffic with more entertainment, dining and shopping,” Blount said.
Development that Sanford officials hope will also draw more people here.
“It’s a great economic boom for the community as well. That’s something that’s very important to us. Not only providing the experience for our guests, but also an economic benefit to the community,” Ditmanson said.
An economic benefit that will hopefully be a big win for the sports-focused center.
Sanford has also offered to donate land at the complex for a new Sioux Falls public school.
The district hasn’t made a decision on that yet.
