The construction crew building the new Sioux Falls Fleet Farm is taking to the sky to get part of the job done.
With the site so close to the Sioux Falls airport, there are restrictions on the height of the cranes that can be used. So, Lloyd Companies is turning to an air crane for some of the work. This flight crew from Minneapolis is lifting half of the building’s rooftop air handling units into place this week. It’s a unique strategy that brings a few challenges.
“The big thing is that when you’re using an air crane service, a helicopter, we have to go through certain safety protocol,” Lloyd Companies VP of Construction Wade Behm said.
The building is evacuated during the process to make sure everyone on the ground is safe. The 185,000 square foot Fleet Farm is scheduled to open next spring.
