It’s getting to that time of year where some people are longing for those summer days when they can jump in the lake and go water skiing.
But sometimes people don’t wait until the warmer weather. In this week’s Flashback Friday, we take a look at two chilly skiers in 1982.
In a part of the country that’s known 50 degrees below 0 only too well anything above 0 is a heat wave.
So it’s here in tropical Yankton South Dakota that two sportsmen are taking the plunge.
The 2 are from Sioux Falls and Yankton and say they are friends, up until today that is.
You call them crazy but they say they’ve heard it all before and taken it all.
In water that is barely above freezing, they donned wet suits and slip in for a dip in the Missouri.
It’s nice to be a little bit different. To be recognized for being a little bit crazy sometimes.”
“Some people would say it’s a lot crazy.”
“That’s fine… It’s a great attribute.”
They do have some help in scaring off the chill Denny would like to thank his secretary for the layer of pantyhose.
And on top of that there is plastic sacks and socks and rubber bands to hold it all down.
The ski run is the 2nd this season.
They last took a dive on December 6, say they liked the novelty, and plan to keep it up all Winter.
“December 6, 1981?”
“How was it then?”
“How do you predict it to be today?”
As a post script, if you say you could never do that, you may be right.
The water is very cold underneath the floating ice.
And these guys have a beer and a whole month to recover.
Besides, they have some extra padding.
Dwayne sells Dale Carnegie optimism, and Denny sells insurance.
