With all the cold and snow it’s easy to catch some cabin fever.
But even though it’s cold people can still find ways to have some outdoor fun. In this week’s Flashback Friday, see how people were having fun outside in 1986.
You probably won’t find any Wayne Gretzky’s out on this rink.
But some of the action might make even the great gretzky cringe a little.
“It’s tough. It’s a lot of sore bruises afterwards.”
A dozen broomball teams subjected themselves to the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat as part of the 6th annual Iowa Great Lakes Winter games, where the real winner is the lakes region.
“We’re trying to attract people to the lakes region for the wintertime. And the fact that you know this isn’t just a summer tourist area, we have a lot fun here in the wintertime too.”
Things were a little more sedate indoors, as contestants with visions of golfing weather dancing in their heads tested their skills on the putting green.
Others try their luck at a more traditional wintertime sport, while still others shuffled along at the shuffleboard.
“I think it really kicks you up and really gives you life in the wintertime.”
“What do you think about playing golf in the middle of Winter like this?”
“It’s nice, it’s nice and warm in here.”
But for the heartier types, no matter how cold or how slippery, the outdoors is the only place to be.
“We have snow for quite a while we gotta do something with it. You can’t just look at it all the time.”
