SIOUX FALLS, S.D.– It’s been a long time since a First Friday felt like it did Friday in downtown Sioux Falls. The scenes are familiar, but it’s been a while since people have had the chance to enjoy the open air like this on a First Friday.
“It’s just such a great night, and one of the first nice weekends that we have, and downtown on Phillips Avenue is always so lively on the First Fridays that we just had to take advantage on a Friday night,” Chad Pederson of Sioux Falls said.
There’s more than one good reason to be out here.
“Friday afternoon trivia at PAve across the street,” Bill Murphy of Sioux Falls said.
“We popped into Paramount, but it was jam-packed, and then we popped into a couple of boutiques for my girlfriend, and I think now we’re going to try a quick glass of wine here at Crawford’s,” Pederson said.
Andrew and Tara Barney of Sioux Falls both have art at Rehfeld’s.
“We came to appreciate the art of some of our friends at Washington Pavilion for the Great Plains Watercolor art society, which I’m a member, and also to Rehfeld’s to visit with some friends, and to hopefully encourage people to look at our art and buy a few things to take home with them,” Tara Barney said.
The weather, finally, seems ready to set this scene.
“Gotta get out and enjoy it,” Pederson said.
“I love it,” Andrew Barney said. “I like to see the crowds, it’s very encouraging.”
Maybe especially if recent times have been a little trying.
“It is wonderful, it makes you forget about your stressful week,” Tara Barney said.
“Sandbags. It makes you forget about the sandbags,” Andrew Barney said.
