Falls Park will reopen to the public on Friday.
The city’s namesake has been closed for almost 10 days. Flooding on the Big Sioux River caused safety concerns leading city leaders to close the park and issue citations for people trying to get into the park.
At a flooding update news conference, officials announced the park will reopen but the lower viewing areas at Falls Park will be closed.
In addition, 11 miles of the city bike trail will reopen.
City officials are also setting up three public sandbagging drop off locations. They are at Sherman, Riverdale and Tomar Parks. The drop off sites open at 8 a.m. Saturday and will run to 7 p.m. until April 13.
KELOLAND News will have more coverage of Friday’s news conference and Falls Park reopening throughout the day.
