The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is coming up this Saturday!
It started back in 1980, and has grown into an annual tradition for many families in Sioux Falls.
Two of those families have such strong Irish heritage, they’ve bonded together over the years. The Grogan’s and Murphy’s have each taken turns sharing the title of Grand Marshal.
Matriarch Grogan received the honor in 2001.
“My mom kind of became one of the mothers of everybody in the north-end. So I think almost any kid that was looking for a place to stay or some pie to eat or stuff like that would stop at moms,” Hugh Grogan said.
“Sometimes I used to say they were a little bit less organized because there were so many of them, but they did have fun,” Dick Murphy said.
Like any family, the Grogan’s and Murphy’s have a bit of a rivalry going on!
We’ll see how that plays out in the annual parade, coming up in our Eye On KELOLAND at 10.
