SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– More and more people are going to work for themselves! A new report shows 15 million Americans are self-employed. Experts predict that number is only going to grow during 2019.
Locally, entrepreneurs have resources to help make their dreams a reality. We stopped by the Zeal Center for Entrepreneurship to find out how you can grow an idea into a business.
You may remember our story on Throne Publishing last month, when Jeremy Brown shared how he made a business out of telling other peoples’ stories. His passion started the business, but he credits its growth to Zeal.
“While we’ve been at Zeal, Zeal gave us a safe place with resources with people around us to be able to test new things out,” said Brown.
Brown is just one of many entrepreneurs using the Zeal headquarters as home base.
“So we have a 45,000 square foot facility, and we house businesses in the like early startup stages. And the scale up stage too. This is the place where they prove their concept or their model. It’s their first proving ground as they launch their business,” said Giedd.
Thaddeus Giedd is the Client Specialist for Zeal. He says what makes this place really unique is the camaraderie they offer business owners who need advice or motivation.
“They have 18 or 20 different entrepreneurs and businesses right around them, so they can share experiences and develop relationships and get helpful resources right in the building,” said Giedd.
“Even though we don’t talk and spend hours talking together, it can be a two, three minute conversation that uplifts your spirits, gets you refocused, and gets you back in the game,” said Brown.
The center also holds regular seminars about different topics, ranging from banking to marketing and online strategies. Giedd says they have plenty of room to help out new entrepreneurs now.
“Even if they’re just having an idea rattling around and their kicking the tires, that’s the best stage to start getting out there and developing relationships,” said Giedd.
On top of office space, Zeal also has labratories which allows biotech companies to move in. The cost for renting space ranges from about $300 up to $2,000 a month.
