A person was injured while working at the scene of an accident in Le Mars Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were working at the scene of an accident at Business Highway 75, between 18th and 24th Streets in Le Mars early Wednesday morning, according to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office.

They say that the road was closed and a detour was set up. An Iowa Department of Transportation employee was directing northbound traffic onto 24th Street and a tow employee was directing traffic at the intersection onto Business Highway 75.

Around 6:50 a.m. a Ford 500 driven by Thomas Toben of rural Westfield was going north on the highway and hit a DOT pickup which had emergency lights active. The DOT pickup then hit Mark Stockton, who was helping direct traffic.

Stockton suffered a serious leg injury and was taken to the Floyd Valley Hospital in a second ambulance.

Toben vehicle sustained about $3,000 in damage and the DOT pickup had about $300 in damage. Both were towed from the scene.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol are still investigating the accident. Charges are pending.
