Eight pounds of heroin was seized by Minnehaha County Sheriff Deputies in a traffic stop on May 28 near the Dell Rapids exit on Interstate 29.

Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Captain Jason Gearman says authorities were alerted to a Chevy truck that was driving in the wrong direction. Deputies pulled over the truck after finding it on the interstate.  They found a hidden compartment in the truck that had eight pounds of heroin along with two pounds of fentanyl and some marijuana.

Authorities say it’s one of the largest amounts of heroin ever seized in the state.

Thirty-eight-year-old Andy Ontiveros, of Minneapolis, was arrested for distribution and possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities are still investigating the case.
