Educators Rising South Dakota inspiring high school students to become teachers

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Dozens of high schools students from 11 districts are at Southeast Tech learning about what it takes to become a teacher.

Educators Rising South Dakota is hosting its first-ever state conference. Travis Lape with Educators Rising and the Harrisburg School District says the goal of the organization is to inspire high schoolers to choose education as their career path.

“Now that our salaries are getting to where they need to be. There’s a little more energy around the teaching profession. This was like a perfect timing to start something,” Lape said.

The conference is also connecting students with colleges in attendance from the University of Sioux Falls to Dakota State, and Dakota Wesleyan. Southeast Tech also provides a early childhood specialist program.
