Students In Humboldt showing off their inventions

HUMBOLDT, S.D. (KELO) — Nine student inventor groups at West Central Elementary in Humboldt are facing off in a Shark Tank inspired event.

Not only do the students have to present their ideas to local business experts, they’re also sharing their inventions in front of the whole school. Talk about pressure. Haily Chitwood says she was scared but confident in the product her group built… extendable shoes. It helps kids reach things in high places.

“Their mom and dad ask them to reach high things but they know that they can’t reach it and they can’t find anything that they can stand on. They can just go and grab it and attach it to their shoe,” Chitwood said.

Chitwood’s group beat out more than 100 other third graders for the chance to make their presentation in the gym. The overall winner is going home with a special certificate.
