Christmas Tree Farm Raising Funds For Las Vegas Victims

A Canton farm known for its Christmas trees and pumpkins this time of year is hoping to help out victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Riverview Christmas Tree Farm is getting ready for its Pumpkin Festival this weekend. It wants to use the event to raise money for people who came under fire earlier this week.

On a peaceful, sunny trip to the Riverview farm, this preschool class from Holy Spirit in Sioux Falls is learning everything they need to know about Christmas trees and pumpkins.

“And it’s just a gorgeous day and I know they’re getting ready for their festival. It is a great atmosphere out here already,” parent Jacqui Meadors said.

While cutting down Christmas trees is still a ways off, this weekend you can take part in the “Pumpkin Festival.” On Saturday, owner Todd Gannon is bringing in Nashville recording artist Tyler David to perform a free concert. After the tragic shooting event in Las Vegas, Gannon and David decided they’d try to raise money for the victims.

“It’s going to change their lives forever. My cousin has an office overlooking the grounds and was there. They were locked down until 5 a.m. My family has been in contact with him. He’s really struggling and searching for answers too,” Gannon said.

Las Vegas may be more than 1,000 miles away but the owners here at Riverview in Canton felt a need to pitch in and you can help.

Riverview will donate $1 for every drink sold during the concert.

“We thought the best thing we could do is donate some of the proceeds from the concert to those victims in Las Vegas and take up a free-will donation, just to do whatever we can,” Gannon said.

That money will be used to provide relief and financial support to the victims and their families.

“It’s going to be a long process and it’s hard for everybody, whether you’re there or here,” Meadors said.

The festival takes place this Saturday and Sunday. The free concert featuring Tyler David is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. Riverview is also giving away pumpkins to police officers this weekend. If you show your badge, your first pumpkin is free of charge.
