It’s now been over a month since 160,000 gallons of oil spilled from 10 tanker cars into Doon’s floodwaters.
Mayor of Doon Tim Mantel said he’s never been more proud to be Mayor during this time of cleanup. He says the community has banded together in ways he never imagined.
And while roads are now back open, Mantel remains in contact with BNSF Railway as cleanup continues.
“They’ve contacted me. They’re going to talk to me next week again. But they’re in total cleanup now, they’re taking the crops out, what need to be, they’re cutting all the trees, shrubs, everything like that,” Mantel said.
Mantel says work is still expected to take months and possibly years to complete.
In Monday night’s EYE On KELOLAND, Claire Lavezzorio will talk with businesses in Doon as well as people who call the town home to find out how they’re moving past the hard times.
