The Sioux Falls School District is teaming up with Avera Health for a new program. The Avera Academy is designed to help kids explore the medical field, who may not get the chance to go to college. This includes students who are from low-income homes or new citizens.
Every morning, these kids will take classes sponsored by Avera at Southeast Tech. Once a week they’ll also head to Avera to learn about more career options.
“They can focus on Human Resources. They can do med tech. They could do medically terminology. Any of those that apply to an area that they’re interested in,” Teresa Boysen, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Achievement, said.
The program is only offered to 24 students a year. The costs are covered by Avera Corporate Sponsorship.
