Beating Semester Test Stress

Parents and students may already have summer on their minds, but some kids still have tests to take this week. That can mean quite a bit of stress. 

Roosevelt High School freshman Kassy Strable says she’s feeling stress, but she’s got a game plan.

“I think I just gotta study my packets, and review, and remember what the teachers told me,” Strable said.

Roosevelt teacher Brittany Hamann has now taught for three years. She’s got a few tips for fighting the stress.

“I would say avoid procrastination, and try to break it up into little pieces of review for yourself,” Hamann said.  “Only commit maybe twenty minutes, every night to a subject and start a little bit earlier.”

Of course, you have to take care of yourself, too.

“Get plenty of rest,” Hamann said. “Eat before the day of the test, because you don’t want a grumbling stomach while you’re trying to focus. So, yeah, and just ask questions as much as possible during these review days- they’re essential.”

High school students in the Sioux Falls School District are going to take their semester tests on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Confidence can make a big difference.

“Just study as much as you can to the point where you’re confident in what you know,” Roosevelt freshman Cade Nofziger said.

“Stay positive, give yourself a good attitude, and walk into it predicting that you’re going to get an A on it,” Hamann said.
