Some Roosevelt High School students are in trouble for bringing BB guns to school.
That’s according to a letter sent to parents.
The district says the 5 BB guns were hidden in backpacks and the students planned to sell them.
Police have taken over the investigation.
They say at no point were students or staff at risk.
Below is the letter to parents
Hello Roosevelt Parents and Guardians. Earlier today, we had a situation involving students who brought five BB guns into the school to sell or trade with other students. Upon learning of this information, we immediately began our investigation in partnership with our School Resource Officer(s).
We quickly identified the students involved, collected the BB guns which were concealed in backpacks, and turned the matter over to Sioux Falls Police. While I understand this information can be unsettling, it is our joint conclusion with police that students and staff were never at risk. Our investigation shows that while the BB guns were inside the school, the students had NO intent of using them in the school. The school was the location of their intended transfer.
Possessing a weapon on school property requires the most serious of discipline consequences. Please know that we remain vigilant and committed to your student’s safety. Quick resolution of this situation is an example of our daily promise to make Roosevelt a safe and welcoming learning environment. Thank you.
