Annual Fourth Of July Family Parade

Fourth of July festivities have been going on all day across KELOLAND.  One of Sioux Falls’ patriotic celebrations wrapped up this morning.

Thousands of people line the cstreets of Phillips Avenue for the annual Fourth Of July parade.

Families got the chance to see everything from pre-school bicyclists to Batman and Captain America make way through downtown Sioux Falls.

“It’s nice to celebrate with friends and family,” Traci Cavanaugh, parade attendee said.

With all the fun and excitement, there’s a bigger reason for the celebration.

“It’s an important reminder how lucky we are to live in country like this,” Craig Sletten, parade attendee, said.

Independence Day is a time for many to appreciate their American rights and privilege.
It’s their very freedom that hundreds of thousands of service men and women have died to protect.

“It’s important that we do these things so not only do we see it but our children see it and the people of the world,” Sletten said.

“I hope for other countries that they can have the same independence and freedom that we enjoy today,” Cavanaugh said.

“There’s a lot of stuff going on now but it’s still a great country compared to what’s going on in this world,” Mary Armstrong, parade attendee, said.
