Accounting Firm Lends A Helping Hand On Community Day

News

Elaine Jones has called this house a home for more than 45 years, but it’s looking a little brighter than usual.

“They’re putting on a fresh coat of paint; they’re painting my shed; they’ve removed a whole bunch of volunteer trees; they’re mowing the lawn,” Elaine Jones said.

Jones is referring to the work of volunteers. Typically, you’d find them working in downtown Sioux Falls at accounting firm Eide Bailly. But each year when Community Day rolls around, most of the employees step out of the office and into an area of town that needs their help.

“98 percent of us are here helping out,” Eide Bailly Partner-in-Charge Derrick Larson said.

About 70-80 employees were on hand Thursday sprucing up three homes.

“It just feels great to give back to the community and more than just giving money,” Larson said.

But the firm isn’t acting alone. For the past six years, it’s partnered with Habitat for Humanity to make some improvements to Sioux Falls homes.

“We love when an organization sees the need in a community and makes a pledge to an organization with their employees and their time and the day off and resources to say what you stand for resonates with us and we want to help,” Habitat for Humanity Community Relations Director Niki Schillerstrom said.

Thanks to that helping hand, Jones now has a brighter day.

“It’s really nice. I couldn’t do it myself so I really appreciate it,” Jones said.

Overall, this is Eide Bailly’s 9th Community Day.
