60 Minutes preview: The devastation of synthetic opioids

News

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — As the opioid crisis continues to have deadly effects across the United States and in KELOLAND, this Sunday a 60 Minutes report will profile a drug dealer wanted for shipping fentanyl on which two people overdosed. They’re dead. Fentanyl and carfentanil are synthetic opioids with deadly potential; it doesn’t take a lot to do an incredible amount of damage.

Two people overdosed on fentanyl that Guanghua Zheng shipped into the United States illegally. A 60 Minutes producer asked Zheng a question in Shanghai- was he still selling fentanyl in the United States? Zheng said no.

That 60 Minutes report airs on KELO-TV on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. central time. Coming Friday at the Washington Pavilion is an art show and auction for Emily’s Hope, an organization fighting against the opioid epidemic. KELOLAND’s Dan Santella will have a live report from that event on KELOLAND News at 6.
