Broken locks at a storage unit in west Sioux Falls mark the beginning of an investigation into what was stolen by burglars.

At about 9 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to a storage unit facility on South Ellis Road near West Lavern Wipf Street where about 26 locks had been broken off from the doors. Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said an employee or manager first discovered the damaged locks.

He says that finding what was stolen from the storage units will be a lengthy process.

“We have to get a hold of the owners and they have to go out to the storage unit and find out if there’s anything missing,” Clemens said. “We have to wait to hear back from them. Sometimes that can take a few days, weeks.”
