19 Year Old Accused Of Stabbing Grandfather, Lighting House On Fire

A 19-year-old man is accused of stabbing his grandfather and lighting a house on fire in Iowa.

Santos Rodriguez, Jr., was arrested Wednesday in Utah for first-degree murder and first-degree arson. He reportedly admitted to stabbing his grandfather, 84-year-old Luis Luevanos, before intentionally starting a fire inside the home.

Firefighters were first called to a home in the 1400 block of 15th Street at about 2:30 a.m. on October 29. A portion of the house was engulfed in flames and Luevanos’ body was found inside. In an investigation led by the state fire marshal’s office and Rock Valley police, authorities discovered that Luevanos had suffered several stab wounds prior to the fire.

Investigators also discovered that Rodriguez, a resident at the home, had traveled out of the state after the fire. Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation traveled from Iowa to Utah to interview Rodriguez, who reportedly admitted to the stabbing and causing the fire.

Rodriguez is in custody and awaiting for extradition back to Iowa. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
