17 Shell Casings Found From Sunday Night Shooting

Seventeen shell casings – that’s what investigators have found outside a Sioux Falls apartment building.

On Sunday night, police received reports of several gunshots on west Valhalla Blvd. — a couple of blocks south of the Empire Mall.

When officers arrived they found the casings, but not the shooters.

Police say a couple of apartments got hit. One was hit five times and another was shot two or three times.

Police say it’s very fortunate no one was hurt.

“We had one apartment that had a couple of adults and three kids inside of it. Thankfully none of them were hurt or injured. And we had another apartment that had two people. One of them was in bed and one of the bullets went through the wall and into the mattress and actually came out of the mattress she was laying on so thankfully she wasn’t harmed either,” Officer Sam Clemens said.

Police are still trying to figure out who fired the shots. One witness thought they saw a car drive away, but they weren’t able to give a description.
