Books, lunch money, masks? Advice from Avera on the 2020-21 school year

KELOLAND Living

As we all grow more used to our new normal in this current COVID environment, schools and many public spaces are asking, encouraging or even requiring everyone to wear face masks. That includes our kids. Only, kids don’t always do what we ask them, no matter how important it is. Twila Perkinson is a Child Life Specialist with Avera Health and part of her job every day is figuring out ways to get kids to do the things they may not want to do–such as get a shot, be examined or get a test in the hospital. So it seemed only natural that we would ask her to join us on the couch today to help us parents navigate this sensitive subject without having to endure a full-blown meltdown.

If you are looking for quality healthcare for your child, give Avera Health a call at 605-322-3629. They’ll be happy to help direct you to the Avera locations nearest you. You can also find Parenting Resources and Educational opportunities on their website at avera.org/services/childrens-health.
