Not just another ‘game day’ Original

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) – This is the first time we’ll be seeing ESPN’s College GameDay in Brookings, South Dakota, but there’s another first that is happening in the town. Even more stores are bringing the blue and prepping to welcome SDSU fans from all over.

Ray’s Corner has been a staple to the town for almost half a century. They’ve geared up for game day in more ways than one.

Ray’s Corner has been well known throughout Brookings since 1960. Most employees have worked there for years and consider the staff and the people at the bar their second family. Lisa Steenson is the manager at Ray’s Corner. She’s been working there for almost 30 years and says GameDay coming to Brookings, “lit a fire,” under the business to spruce up its look.

“It was going to be painted next year anyway. We didn’t know what color or anything, but it certainly needed to be redone. And when they said, ‘Bring the blue,’ we thought, ‘What better time? Do it now,'” Steenson said.

Ray’s Corner changed their iconic red trim to blue.

Steenson also says Ray’s Corner will continue to sport the blue color for years to come and the staff couldn’t be happier with the decision.
