Bring on the pantsuits and fanny packs. Eighties fashion is making a big comeback.
Ahhh. Yes. The 80s. It was a time full of spandex, slogans on t-shirts and shoulder pads.
You even saw them on our KELOLAND News reporters. Just when you thought those trends would never come back...
"With that acid wash, it's amazing," Sioux Falls resident Bailey Meadors said.
...here they are. Bailey Meadors is embracing the eighties.
"I love denim skirts. I have so many in my closet. It's amazing how many I collect," Meadors said.
The 80s were one of the hottest trends at New York Fashion Week this year. But you don't have to travel to a bigger city to find the big trend. You'll find hints from the decade at several Sioux Falls clothing stores. That includes TH Grey in the downtown area.
"I follow fashion very closely. I'm seeing a lot of 80's and 90's. That's super, super in right now," TH Grey Owner Trish Tilberg said.
Tilberg says they use 80s inspiration with a modern twist. For example, take a look at this jacket.
"It has these elbow cuts. It gives it that extra," Tilberg said.
Across town at Mainstream Boutique you'll find everything from scrunchies to wind breakers.
Casey Wonnenberg: So have you gotten anyone who is buying the scrunchies yet?
"Oh yes. The teenagers are. For sure the teenagers are buying them," Mainstream Boutique-Dawley Farm Manager Shelbie Walker said.
"The new generation of stylists come in, take the old styles, bring them back, and put a modern twist on them," Walker said.
Walker says the biggest buyers of these eighties outfits so far are teenagers and young adults.
"I've had a lot of customers come in here who were around in the 80s. They're like, 'Oh my gosh. I would never wear that now. I wore it when I was a kid or teenager.' They say they threw all that stuff away. Now it's coming back," Walker said.
Proof that if you leave your clothes in your closet long enough...
"I love high-waist," Meadors said.
...they just might be cool once again or the 2018 version for cool, "Gucci."
"My clothes are my way of how I express," Meadors said.
An expression straight from the 80s.
While 80s inspiration is expected to be one of the biggest fashion trends of 2018, the 90s are also making a comeback. Tilberg says with social media, people are really expressing themselves through their outfits.
