DEVELOPING WINTER STORM WILL BRING SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS TO MUCH OF THE AREA THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY


.A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE FROM NORTHEAST MONTANA THIS MORNING TO CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA AND CENTRAL NEBRASKA BY THIS AFTERNOON, THEN INTO THE MIDWEST TONIGHT. AREAS OF RAIN WILL CHANGE OVER TO SNOW TODAY AS COLDER AIR CONTINUES TO MOVE IN, HOWEVER A LULL IN THE RAIN AND SNOW IS EXPECTED THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON. GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS WILL PRODUCE BLOWING SNOW LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT ON THE PLAINS AND ENHANCE UPSLOPE SNOWFALL OVER THE NORTHERN BLACK HILLS. HEAVIER SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED ACROSS THE AREA TONIGHT AND WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING. SNOW WILL END LATE TUESDAY MORNING OR EARLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON AS DRIER AIR MOVES IN. SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE FORECAST TO BE IN THE 6 TO 12 INCH RANGE ACROSS MUCH OF THE NORTHERN BLACK HILLS AND WYOMING BLACK HILLS, WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS ACROSS THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. ON THE PLAINS, 2 TO 6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED IN MOST AREAS. , WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MST TUESDAY, THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON MST TUESDAY.

* TIMING, HEAVIER SNOW WILL DEVELOP THIS AFTERNOON OR EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

* MAIN HAZARD, SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.

* OTHER CONDITIONS, STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL PRODUCE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW, REDUCING VISIBILITIES.

* IMPACTS, THE SNOW AND STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS.
