During the planning process the YMCA board and staff used templates to determine the space they needed to fulfill and grow.
"It certainly wasn’t 100,00 square feet we were spending all of our resources on heat and reparis. Certainly the 38,000 sq. ft. is even above what the template would have shown so we would have had extra space and now we are able to use that and again going back to that fulfilling a need that the community is requiring," CEO of Sioux Falls Family YMCA, Mike Gulick said.
The need the city has identified is affordable housing.
"One of the missions of the YMCA is to fill a need and so if affordable housing is a need that the community has identified and we can get some families out of some substandard housing and into some brand new affordable housing units.
