Childress Won't Say Who Vikings Backup QB Is

Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress is not saying who will serve as the primary backup to quarterback Brett Favre for the season opener.
Childress was asked Monday if Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels will be the second stringer on Sunday at Cleveland. The coach says he will not reveal that until just before kickoff, "but at least you know who the starter is here."

Browns coach Eric Mangini has declined to say whether Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson will start against the Vikings.

Vikings Sign Booty, 7 Others To Practice Squad

The Minnesota Vikings have signed quarterback John David Booty and seven others to the practice squad.
The Vikings announced the practice squad on Sunday. The others are running back Ian Johnson, tight end Garrett Mills, offensive tackles Chris Clark and Drew Radovich, receiver Nick Moore, defensive tackle Tremaine Johnson and safety Colt Anderson.

Vikings Cut QB Booty, 21 Others

Quarterback John David Booty is among the final cuts for the Minnesota Vikings, leaving the team with Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels behind starter Brett Favre.
The Vikings announced their final roster Saturday. Booty was in his second season as a developmental quarterback out of USC.

Favre Fined For Crack-Back Block

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for his crack-back block on Houston's Eugene Wilson in a preseason game.
The league said Friday that Favre hit an opponent below the waist on a run play as the Texans safety was moving toward the ball carrier. The game last Monday was televised nationally and the block caused some uproar in Houston and elsewhere around the league.

Favre Will Not Play Friday Night

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will not play in the preseason finale on Friday night against Dallas.
Coach Brad Childress made the announcement Wednesday. He says he does not want to risk injury to Favre or any other starter, so everyone will rest against the Cowboys.

Favre Taking Heat For 'Crackback'

Brett Favre turned in a solid performance on Monday night, completing 13-of-18 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings 17-10 win over the Texans. But its not what Favre did with his arm that has most people talking.
With the Vikings in the "Wildcat" formation in the third quarter, Favre was flagged for an illegal crackback block on Houston safety Eugene Wilson.

Report: Favre Believes He May Have Cracked Rib

Vikings quarterback Brett Favre says he might have a cracked rib.
Favre told ESPN before Monday night's game at Houston that he hasn't received an official diagnosis but that taking a deep breath caused him some discomfort. He also doesn't plan to wear any kind of special padding, saying "the damage is done."

Favre's agent Bus Cook wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press that he didn't know if Favre has a cracked rib but "he'll play as far as I know."

The 39-year-old Favre was expected to play the entire first half against the Texans.

Brett Favre has been in Minnesota for only 10 days, so he's still getting acquainted with his new Vikings teammates.
The 39-year-old quarterback says he's been staying late at team headquarters to study film and learn the tendencies of his new receivers. He's also getting to know the rest of the team on a personal level, something he says will take more than a week to accomplish.

Vikings Waive WR Holt

The Minnesota Vikings have waived receiver Glenn Holt.
The Vikings signed Holt as a free agent out of Cincinnati in the offseason. He was brought in to compete primarily as a return man after averaging 24.3 yards per kick return with the Bengals.

But Holt became expendable when the Vikings drafted receiver Percy Harvin, who is expected to be one of the main kick returners.

Favre was signed last Tuesday, so he missed the first preseason game against Indianapolis. He played two series against Kansas City on Friday night.
