After a tough Friday night loss to the Indiana Ice, the Sioux Falls Stampede were looking to earn a weekend series split in the rematch on Saturday.
Instead the Herd watched the Ice improve their winning streak to six games as they fell 4-2.
“We had our chances,” Sioux Falls Forward Terry Broadhurst said, “But it was just one of those nights and there's not much you can do about it.”
The powerplay was once again a huge downfall for the Herd, as all seven of their opportunities with a man advantage came up short. Meanwhile Indiana went two for six with the two goals coming within 36 seconds of each other in the second period to make the score three to nothing.
“We had to play from behind again tonight,” Head Coach Kevin Hartzell said, “But I think we played much better than [Friday] night, their goalie was just on.”
Indiana Goaltender Brett Bennett made 19 saves on 21 shots. Eric Hartzell on the other end managed 27 saves on 31 shots.
“You gotta give credit to [Bennett],” Broadhurst said, “He was having a great game and the bounces weren't going our way.”
The Stampede did have a few bright spots with Ryan Kesti and Blake Thompson each tallying goals, Thompson's coming in the final second of the game.
“Compared to [Friday] we did play a lot harder today,” Broadhurst said, “Going forward we had a little more passion and a little more heart and we hope to bring that into next weekend.”
Sioux Falls will travel to Fargo for the Force's first ever home game on October 30 and will try to put a stop to their two game skid.
“We're gonna try to recover here and get back to practice,” Broadhurst said, “We'll get back after it and hopefully move on this weekend.
