He's a South Dakota basketball legend, who's taught literally thousands of young players what it takes to be successful on the hardwood. Richard Hansen, founder and publisher of the Hansen-Anderson basketball preview, died this past weekend at the age of 63.
Hansen's annual publication is a basketball enthusiasts dream, with in-dept analysis from across the state. Along with the preview, Hansen's basketball camps brought out some of the state's elite talent. And it's that unbridled enthusiasm for the game that will be sorely missed.
Former O'Gorman/West Central Head Coach Mike Begeman says, "his passion was unparalleled, by anybody's standards in the state, he was very passionate about high school basketball and South Dakota athletes in particular, and he's going to be missed."
Hansen, who made his home in Webster, died suddenly on Saturday at Sanford Health Care here in Sioux Falls. Funeral arrangements are still pending
