It's taken nearly two months, but the Sioux Falls School District has finally found Bob Wilber's replacement at Roosevelt.
Former Riders assistant Lee Taylor will officially take the reins next fall. It's the first head coaching gig for Taylor, who returns to Sioux Falls after spending three seasons as an assistant at NCAA Division III Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois.
"I have nothing but great memories of being there my first two years. I look forward to growing those relationships with new people that are there now, and with the staff that I will put together. It's definitely a great accomplisment to be at a school, and be a part of a school like Roosevelt," Taylor said.
Taylor is walking into a fantastic situation. He inherits a roster that featured 11 juniors last season, including University of Iowa recruit Cody Larson. But Taylor says he's not interested in being a one-hit wonder.
"It great to have talent. Its definitely something that you'd rather have than not. I think, though, that when we come together this summer and work hard its not going to be just about next year," explains Taylor. "Its going to be about how this program is run for not just the next year, but for many years down the road. And we're going to set those standards. And its our job to make sure the kids are 110 percent behind our Roosevelt program."
Roosevelt finished 13-and-10 in 2008-2009, failing to qualify for the state tournament for the third time in four years.
