I’m not a native of South Dakota, but I’m excited to now call it my home!Prior to accepting a job at KELOLAND-TV, home for me was right next door in Minnesota. I was born and raised on the East Side of St. Paul and lived in Mankato for several years, so, I’m not afraid of what the winter can bring. Though that won’t stop me from complaining about it! Telling stories and breaking big news stories was something I decided I wanted to do a long-time ago when my interest was accidentally sparked in a high school TV Production class. It was in that class that I got a taste of anchoring and reporting and wanted to learn more. For that, I went on to St. Cloud State University where I lugged around camera equipment and worked countless hours at the campus TV station where I learned how to be a reporter. During my junior year, I even studied broadcast journalism in Australia, though I’m not sure how much ‘studying’ I actually did! A few months after graduating, I landed my first job in the business at the CBS station in Mankato. During the 4 ½ years I worked there, I held just about every job including weather. I ended my career in Mankato co-anchoring the evening newscasts, the opposite of the job I first accepted at KELOLAND. For my first year at KELO, I woke up every morning at 2:30 a.m. to anchor KELOLAND This Morning, a task helped by lots and lots of coffee. Over the years, my time on the morning show grew in many ways including the length of the newscast from 2 hours to 2 ½ hours. In August 2011, I moved to a more ‘normal’ schedule that has me anchoring two much shorter shows at Midday and 5 p.m., along with covering all of the education news in KELOLAND. When I’m not working; I’m very busy planning my December wedding, visiting family and friends, working out, reading a good book, or just catching up on sleep. Of course, I also spend a good amount of time cheering on my Minnesota Vikings and Twins! Please feel free to send me your story ideas or just say hello! nwinters@keloland.com |
