Beth Jensen
I’m not sure this is where my parents expected I would end up when they told me to bring a newspaper article to the dinner table each night as a kid. Since they both have print journalism backgrounds, I think they were just trying to get my brother and me interested in current events. But something must have clicked because ever since I was a student at Mark Twain Elementary, I knew the newsroom was where I belonged.
I grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Lincoln High School. Then I headed to Boston University to study broadcast journalism and political science. While in school, I worked at the ABC station in Boston. I also interned for an NBC affiliate, CNN in London and bi-partisan group on Capitol Hill. After spending two years reporting at another TV station in Sioux Falls, I came to KELOLAND TV in 1996.
In my 12 years at KELO, I’ve produced KELOLAND This Morning, Midday in KELOLAND and KELOLAND News at Five, Six and Ten. I also spent four years as a reporter back when I was Beth Fuller. I became executive producer in 2001 and news director in 2008. Along the way, I’ve been lucky enough to work on stories, newscasts and specials that have won two national Edward R. Murrow awards, three regional Emmys and several awards from the South Dakota Associated Press.
When I’m not at work, I love to spend time with my husband and our son and daughter. It’s hard to beat the quality of life in Sioux Falls when it comes to raising kids. We love to spend time at the Pavilion, zoo and great parks around town. I try to keep up with reading for my book club and cooking for my gourmet group. I volunteer as a board member for Volunteers of America, Dakotas and The South Dakota Meth Task Force.
If you have a story idea or want to share your thoughts on our newscasts, I'd love to hear from you. Send me an email at bjensen@keloland.com.
