I was so excited about the prospect of moving to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I had driven through the city while I was moving back home from college and I found people of the Midwest to be so warm and welcoming. I had said to my friend Sioux Falls would be a great place to get a job and report the news. Little did I know that I would have such a great opportunity. I joined KELOLAND as a one of the morning reporters in October 2011 and everyone has been so open and friendly it truly made me feel at home. I enjoyed experiencing how the city welcomes all the hunters from all over when pheasant hunting opens. I look forward to learning more about what makes Sioux Falls special and telling your stories.
I was born in Southern California, raised in Vancouver, Washington, and went to college in Searcy, Arkansas, where I graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Harding University. While at Harding, I worked for the university's TV station TV16, a CNN affiliate, where I learned to produce, report and anchor our live nightly newscast. During one of my summers in college, I was fortunate to get a FOX News internship in New York City with the show Your World with Neil Cavuto. Working with Neil and his team was such a blessing and really prepared me for real world experiences.
Although I am admittedly a news junkie and my palms still sweat with excitement at the hint of breaking news, I also crave intelligent, challenging, compelling content of hearing people's life stories.
The summer before my junior year I got the opportunity to study abroad. I lived and studied in London all summer while getting the chance to travel to places like Italy, Greece, Egypt, Ireland and Scotland. I loved the experience and the chance to meet so many people from other cultures and find out what was important to them that we might take for granted here in the States. I hope some day to do more traveling.
With years of living in the Northwest and my brief four-year stay in the South, I am thrilled to take on a new adventure and experience the beauty of the Midwest.
When I am not in the newsroom you will find me in the kitchen baking; I love the smell of something in the oven. I very much enjoy going musicals and the theater. I am not much of an outdoorsman but I don't mind a little hiking. But I am looking forward to the snow and perhaps a bit of skiing and learning how to navigate in the snow. I can also be found rooting for the New York Yankees as well as the Los Angeles Angels.
I am grateful to be part of the KELOLAND news team and look forward to telling your stories.
